Adria Baker, Ed.D. Associate Vice Provost for International Education

The Costa Rican Interest Group began in 2012 as a group of Rice University faculty and staff who have a shared interest in furthering academic exchange with Costa Rica.  We meet periodically to update one other on what we are working with in Costa Rica, as well as to collaboratively expand our activities and initiatives. The group has served as a resource to Rice for academic contacts, student exchange opportunities, and connections with Costa Rican research, university, business development and governmental organizations. We all share a high level of respect for the academic universities and institutions, as well as great affection and connection for Costa Rica and its people.

I am grateful for the experience I had when I was living in Costa Rica for a year and studying at the University of Costa Rica (UCR). It left a great impression on me, which has made a difference in my life – both personally and professionally. I was an international student at UCR, and learned so much from that experience. It has helped me, as I lead an office that serves to meet the needs of many students and scholars from around the world, who are studying and conducting research at Rice University.

It is an honor to work with the members of the Costa Rica Interest Group, which include faculty and staff originally from Costa Rica, the dean of graduate and postdoctoral studies, as well as other Rice faculty and staff who have a key interest in expanding our efforts. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you would like to learn more about the Rice University Costa Rica Interest Group.

Thank you! Muchas gracias!
