Message from the Chair

Adria Baker, Ed.D. Associate Vice Provost for International Education

Rice University truly enjoys our active research and academic collaborations with partner organizations, universities and other groups in Costa Rica. Our interactions have significantly grown, and the Costa Rica Interest Group has served as an incredible resource for: 1) academic, governmental and business connections, 2) student and research exchange opportunities, and 3) sharing in our great respect for Costa Rica.

In sum, we admire Costa Rica’s high academic standards and hold great affection for our Tico (Costa Rican) friends, students and colleagues – which is why we are thrilled that our two-way travels for research and study continue to expand.

On a personal note, I am grateful for the experience to have studied as a Rotary Fellow at University of Costa Rica (UCR) for a year. It left a truly excellent impression on me, which has made a difference in my life – both personally and professionally. As an international student at UCR, I learned so much that helps me daily in my role as lead of Rice’s international student and scholar office, as well as other V2C2 campus globalization priorities.

It is an honor to work with the very enthusiastic members of the Costa Rica Interest Group, which include faculty, staff, researcher and students from multiple departments and disciplines across the Rice community. Please do not hesitate to contact me, if you would like to learn more about Rice University’s Costa Rica Interest Group.

Thank you! ¡Gracias! ¡Pura vida!
